On January 19, 2014, another Peace Pole was dedicated at the Vietnamese Buddhist Compassion Meditation Center in San Lorenzo! Buddhists share a common desire for all people to walk gently upon the earth, to treat each person with dignity and to work for peace in our everyday lives. The Peace Pole Project was founded in 1955 by Masahisa Goi in Japan after the U.S. bombing of Hiroshima. A Peace Pole is a hand-crafted monument that displays the message and prayer, “May Peace Prevail on Earth” on each of its four or six sides, usually in different languages. There are tens of thousands of Peace Poles in 180 countries all over the world dedicated as monuments to peace. They serve as constant reminders for us to visualize and pray for world peace.
The Interfaith Peace Project planted our Peace Pole on September 1, 2009 and we are promoting. The Peace Pole Project in homes and communities. Lonnie Bristow, M.D., a member of the Board of Directors, is leading The Peace Pole Initiative. Lonnie is an award-winning physician and is a former President of the American Medical Association.
