THE ORIGINS OF THE CONTEMPORARY INTERFAITH MOVEMENT
THE PAST ONE-HUNDRED YEARS
The last one hundred years have been scarred with the tragedy of war, conflict, economic collapse, genocide, and unspeakable inhumane and cruel deeds of persons and nations. Yet, in the midst of such terror, a new consciousness based on interfaith love, respect, and awareness has emerged. We stand at the threshold of destruction or rebirth. In four reflections, we will explore the history and important documents contributing to the rise of this emerging interfaith consciousness which could transform our world for the better.

NO WORLD PEACE WITHOUT RELIGIOUS PEACE
Our five session program is designed to introduce the major faith traditions of humankind. We no longer attempt to discover which religion is true to the exclusion of others. We now seek the truth of each faith tradition. Session one of our series explores the motivation and basis for interfaith exploration.
Finally with session six, we will explore the possibility for the development and practice of interfaith spirituality.

CHRIST THE KING PASSIONIST RETREAT CENTER

AND THE INTERFAITH PEACE PROJECT
PITTSBURG, CA
This twelve part series explores Catholicism as a global spirituality. Each session is self-contained requiring no prior study or preparation. The series begins with the extraordinary perspectives and developments found in the Second Vatican Council. The series is based on a positive, constructive, and future orientated understanding of Catholicism as a spirituality rooted in Scripture, Tradition, and the human quest and search for God.
PART ONE
THE CHURCH
The world church assembled at the Second Vatican Council where the church became aware of itself in new and remarkable ways. While these developments are rooted in history and Tradition, the renewed understanding is still unfolding in ways both challenging, conflicting, and inspiring. We will conclude this part of our series by revisiting the extraordinary insights found in John Paul’s Encyclical, “Ut Unam Sint.”
