THE MONDAY SCRIPTURE STUDY COMMUNITY
May through October 2025
THE INTERFAITH PEACE PROJECT
The Practice of Interpath Spirituality

We appeal to the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles to set the stage for exploring the diversity that typifies the Jesus Movements of the first three Centuries.  We are most interested in the literature the various communities produced.  Perhaps the diversity of the beginnings and their intense creativity will encourage us in our time to live in peace with the rich diversity that so characterizes our world.

AFTER JESUS AND BEFORE CHRISTIANITY

This program is responding to the serious need many have to retrieve the period of history between the death of Jesus and the Nicene Creed.  The Creed marks the rise of orthodoxy and what will become the tradition of the Church.  Without prejudice to the post-creedal developments, our study is prior to the articulation of the Creed in 325 at the Council of Nicaea.  Our yearlong study will begin deep inside the New Testament as we attempt to uncover the voice and work of Jesus of Nazareth and how that voice was heard in the first centuries.  We will conclude on the eve of the Council of Nicaea recognizing the rich diversity of thought and practices that characterized the period of time between Jesus and the Nicene definitions.

The New Testament Epistles of St. John

Our five-part series will attempt to reconstruct the historical community found in the writings of the New Testament attributed to the Apostle John.  The idea that “God is love” permeates the writings of St. John even when the content and delivery seem harsh and unyielding.  We will examine the Epistles of John in light of the insights found in the Gospel of John.
