Our dear friend, mentor, and teacher, Randy Thomas, passed away on December 27, 2025. Several months ago, Randy suffered a severe stroke that paralyzed his left side. We offer our sympathy and love to his family, friends, and coworkers.

Randy served on the Interfaith Peace Project’s Advisory Board. He conducted seminars, teachings, and dialogue with the Interfaith Communities for many years. His work will continue to be a significant contribution to the Interfaith Peace Project’s ongoing efforts.

Randy and I frequently met to discuss the issues of the day as he shared his insights with me. He had an extensive interfaith library. If Randy was not reading and studying, he was engaged in interfaith dialogue. He had a wonderful habit of bringing people together to enjoy their friendship and savor their wisdom. Randy could not walk down a street in Concord, CA, without meeting someone he helped and encouraged. He delighted in meeting them. The joy in his heart radiated on his face.

Randy suffered much as he witnessed the violence that afflicts our world. He would often say his heart was broken over how we sometimes treat one another. He carried the hurts of the world in his heart. The pursuit of compassion summarizes Randy’s work and life. He felt deep regret if he realized he had not lived up to his quest to be a compassionate human being. Randy demanded much of himself for our benefit. Anyone who knew him was more than blessed by his love and care. His compassionate care for us will always be with us.

Over the past several years, Randy was responsible for the Interfaith Reflections offered during Interfaith Harmony Week (February 1-7).  This year, in tribute to Randy, we dedicate our observance of Interfaith Harmony Week to him.  All the reflections offered over the next seven days are inspired by his work, wisdom, and generosity.
