A TIME TO REMEMBER

We run the risk of forgetting
what we need to remember.


Do we need to remember how cruel
we can be to one another?


Do we need to remember we can use religion
and even the name of God to hurt one another?


Do we need to remember the dangers of labeling people
according to our fears and prejudices?


Do we need to remember how easy it is to hurt
and harm, if not kill, one another?


Do we need to remember how much we invest
in creating weapons of destruction?


Perhaps.


What we must never forget is the courage of people
who risk their lives for the sake of others.


We must always remember the people who did risk and lost their lives
for the safety and well-being of others, even perfect strangers.


We must remember we humans form a worldwide family
with responsibilities to one another and all the Earth.


We must remember our ability to love, cherish, and forgive
one another even in the midst of tragedy and adversity.


We must never forget those we remember this day.
They gave their lives for the sake of us all.
