CELEBRATING OUR PAST – BUILDING OUR FUTURE
PROCLAIMING A YEAR OF JUBILEE FROM THE LORD
REJOICING IN THE SPIRIT OF JESUS

Our Retreat Program is inspired by Luke 4: 16-21.   This powerful episode reveals in the mission of Jesus in terms of Isaiah 61: 1-3.  Jesus is filed with the Spirit as he understands himself to have an uncompromising commission to proclaim the Good News to the poor of every type.  We will joyfully explore the implications of Isaiah 61: 1-3 as present in Luke 4: 1-21 as a model for how we might be disciples of Jesus in the contemporary Church and World.   We will develop our Retreat by emphasizing five aspects based on the Gospel of Luke:

  1.  Introducing Luke / Acts of Apostles as one grand work of the Spirit
EXPLORING A GLOBAL UNDERSTANDING OF PENTECOST
  1. Joining Jesus in the Synagogue of Nazareth (The Implications of Luke 4: 16)
THE WORD OF GOD IS IN YOUR HEART
  1. Reading the Scripture with Jesus (Exploring Isaiah 61: 1-3)
JESUS PROCLAIMS THE WORD – THE COURAGE TO LISTEN

  1. Following Jesus on the road to Jerusalem (Living the implications of Luke 4: 18-19)
THE CHURCH AS A FORGIVING, LOVING, WELCOMING COMMUNITY

  1. Being Jesus for others (Probing the implications of Luke 10: 16 in light of Luke 4: 21)
WALKING WITH OTHERS ON THE EMMAUS ROAD

We will enter with Jesus into the Synagogue of our hearts.  There Jesus will do for us what he once did for his disciples.  Jesus will proclaim the Word in thought, action and proclamation.  Transformed and transfixed, we come to realized we are being led by the Spirit to be the Word and Touch of Jesus to everyone we meet.  We will become aware of the Spirit working in the World, the Churches, the Peoples of all Faiths, and in our hearts.

Also we gather to honor and celebrate all those in our faith community who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith.  We will commit ourselves to follow their good example and courage of faith as we continue to proclaim the Gospel in renewed ways for the sake of all people.
