Mahatma Gandhi

“An EYE for an EYE … will only make the whole world BLIND”…

January 30 marks the death of the  national and spiritual leader of India, Mahatma Gandhi.   He was born in Porbandar, India, on  October 2, 1869. After earning a degree in law in England, he settled in South Africa and fought there against the discrimination suffered by Indians. Returning to India he organized non-violent resistance against colonialism, promoting non-cooperation with the British administration. Imprisoned on numerous occasions, in 1937 as the leader of the movement of millions for independence, he was able to mobilize for peace or halt the violence. He tried to stop clashes between Hindus and Muslims that occurred after independence in August 1947 (Gandhi fought against the division of India into two States, India and Pakistan, one Hindu and other Muslim). He was assassinated on January 30, 1948.

PRAYER OF MAHATMA GANDHI

My Lord… Help me tell THE TRUTH in front of the STRONG…
And do not tell LIES to win the applause of the WEAK…
Do not let me be guilty of betraying others… because they do not think as I do…
TEACH ME TO LOVE PEOPLE AS MYSELF!
Do not let me fall into pride if I win…
Nor in despair if I fail…
Rather remind me, that FAILURE is the experience that precedes TRIUMPH…
Teach me that FORGIVENESS is a sign of greatness!
And that revenge is a sign of UNCLEANLINESS…
If I offend people… give me strength to ask for forgiveness…
And if people OFFEND me… GIVE ME the strength TO FORGIVE…
Lord… IF I forget you… NEVER forget me!
Guard your thoughts because they will become your words…
Guard your words because they will become your actions…
Guard your actions because they will become habits…
Guard your habits because they will create your character…
Guard your character because it will create your destiny…
AND YOUR DESTINY IS YOUR LIFE …
