RENO CONGRESS
Presentations by Thomas P. Bonacci, C.P.

RENEWED

Reflections based on Sacred Scripture,
Jesus, Second Vatican Council & the Reno Synod 2015

OLD ENDINGS ARE NEW BEGINNINGS – THE BIBLICAL SPIRITUALITY OF HOPE

In a day and age when so many people feel powerless and anxious, we turn our attention to the courage born of Hope as found in our Sacred Scriptures.  Hope is the hub of the virtues. Isaiah and Jeremiah will be our guides.

TRANSFORMING OUR LOSSES – THE BIBLICAL SPIRITUALITY OF REDEMPTION

Breakdown is Breakthrough! If Jesus redeems us from sin, the Spirit liberates us from oppression.  In every age courageous people have found in adversity an opportunity to benefit the wellbeing of others.  The Gospel of Matthew will be our guide.

SEND FORTH YOUR SPIRIT – THE BIBLICAL SPIRITUALITY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

The past one hundred years has seen a remarkable shift in Christian self-discovery.  Ours is the age of a New Pentecost.  From the streets of LA to the Second Vatican Council, to the Reno Synod the spirit of God has been and is a raging sea and a gently whisper.  The Gospel of John will be our guide.

The Early Cristian Communities where as rich with creativity as they were divided over the “authentic” teachings of Jesus which they believed were handed on to them through the Apostles.  The Canonical and extra-canonical Gospels all claimed the Apostolic Authority.  Our four part series will explore some of these writings with special attention given to one of the most important Apostles of all, Mary Magdalene, whose person and mission is rather constant in the diverse literature of the Early Christian Communities.

LET YOUR LIGHT SO SHINE!

The Gospel of Matthew affords us a powerful opportunity to look back into our roots as disciples of Jesus and see anew that we are a people born of strife and anguish.  For Matthew, that realization is the source of compassion and justice.  As such, Matthew’s Gospel challenges us to be people of justice and compassion as we cope with the issues of our day.  Our continuing series will be influenced by the international scholarship that has recently emerged in Matthean Studies.  The voices of wisdom from the World will bless us as we journey anew through the Parables, Teachings, and Challenges of Jesus our Emmanuel
