“RANSOM” FOR THE MANY

EXPLORATIONS IN THE PASSION THEOLOGY OF ST. MARK

What is behind the liturgical translation of the word “many” in the Institutional Words of the Eucharistic Consecration?  Is the implied exclusion intended or is there a deeper meaning to the troublesome “many” found in the more recent Missal?  These   liturgical concerns invite us to revisit St. Mark’s Gospel as we seek to uncover what the Evangelist might have meant and the implications for us as we struggle to make sense out of the suffering so many endure.
